Questions

What size is a passport photo?

There are two common sizes. Most of the world, including the UK, Ireland, Australia, the Schengen area and Canadian visas, uses 35 × 45 mm. The United States and Indian passport applications abroad use 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm). Canada's passport is larger at 50 × 70 mm, and China's visa is 33 × 48 mm.

What is a passport photo size in pixels?

For printing at photo quality (300 DPI), a 35 × 45 mm photo is 413 × 531 pixels and a 2 × 2 inch photo is 600 × 600 pixels. Online applications often set their own pixel and file-size limits, listed in the table above.

Is 35 × 45 mm the same as 2 × 2 inches?

No. 2 × 2 inches is 51 × 51 mm, a square. 35 × 45 mm is smaller and taller than it is wide. Using the wrong one is a common reason photos are rejected.

Can I wear glasses in a passport photo?

It depends on the country. The US and India's e-Visa don't allow glasses, Australia only for medical reasons, and many others accept clear glasses without glare. Taking them off is the safest choice.

How recent must a passport photo be?

Usually taken in the last 6 months. The UK asks for a photo taken in the last month, and some Schengen missions ask for one no older than 3 months.
