Resize an image for Facebook
Set up for a Facebook feed post: your photo comes out at 1080 × 1350 pixels, the tall 4:5 shape that fills the most of the screen. For other Facebook sizes, use the table below.
Keeping the photo in shape
1080 × 1350 is a 4:5 portrait shape, the tallest Facebook shows in the feed without cropping. If your photo has a different shape, choose how to make it fit:
- Crop to fill cuts off the edges. Drag the preview or use the zoom slider to choose what stays in.
- Fit inside and add a border keeps the whole photo and fills the gaps with a color you pick.
- Stretch squeezes the photo to the new shape, which distorts it.
Facebook image sizes
| Image | Size in pixels | |
|---|---|---|
| Feed post, portrait (shows biggest) | 1080 × 1350 | Resize |
| Feed post, square | 1080 × 1080 | Resize |
| Link or shared image | 1200 × 630 | Resize |
| Story | 1080 × 1920 | Resize |
| Cover photo | 851 × 315 | Resize |
| Profile picture | at least 320 × 320 | Resize |
These are the sizes most often recommended for Facebook. Facebook changes its layouts from time to time, so if an upload looks cropped, check Facebook's own help pages.
Why resize before posting?
- Facebook crops images that are too tall or too wide, which can cut off faces or text.
- Facebook compresses big uploads heavily. A photo that is already the right size usually looks sharper after posting.
- A 4:5 portrait post takes up more of the feed than a landscape one, so more people stop on it.
Questions
What is the best image size for a Facebook post?
1080 × 1350 pixels (4:5 portrait) shows the largest in the feed. 1080 × 1080 (square) is the safe choice if you post the same image on Instagram too.
Does Facebook reduce image quality?
It compresses every upload. Starting from the right size, saved as a good-quality JPG, gives the sharpest result.
Is it safe to resize my photo here?
Yes. The photo is resized by your own browser and never uploaded, so nobody else sees it.

Is it safe?
Yes. The photo is opened and resized by your own browser. It is never uploaded to a server, so nobody else can see it, and it works even if you go offline after the page has loaded. Saving a new copy also removes hidden camera data (EXIF), such as the GPS location where the photo was taken.
