The photo and signature you need

The online OCI application (ociservices.gov.in) asks you to upload two images: a square photo and an image of your signature. Indian embassies and consulates publish slightly different limits. Some allow photos up to 1500 × 1500 pixels and 500 KB; others set 900 × 900 pixels and 200 KB. This tool makes a 600 × 600 pixel JPEG under 200 KB, which fits both.

For the signature, sign in black or blue ink on plain white paper, take a photo of it, and use the OCI signature resizer to crop it to the required 3:1 shape.

Common mistakes

Checked on 4 October 2026 against the official source 1, the official source 2. Rules can change, so confirm before you apply.

How it works

  1. Choose your country and document. The app loads the official size and rules.
  2. Take a photo with the on-screen guide, or choose one you already have.
  3. The app finds your face, crops the photo to the exact size and checks it against the rules: head size, centring, tilt, background and more.
  4. Download the digital photo for online forms, or a 4×6 in print sheet to print at any photo lab.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The face check runs inside your browser. The first time you use it, your browser downloads the face-detection software from Google's MediaPipe service; your photo itself never leaves your device.
