Convert HEIC to JPG

Choose a HEIC image and download it as JPG. The conversion happens on your device.

Why convert HEIC to JPG?

iPhones save photos as HEIC to save space, but many websites, Windows apps and upload forms can't open them. JPG works everywhere. Safari opens HEIC files directly; in other browsers a small decoder is downloaded the first time, and the photo is still converted on your device.

Where HEIC files come from

Since iOS 11, iPhones and iPads save photos in the HEIC (High Efficiency Image) format. It keeps the same quality as JPG in about half the space. The problem appears when you copy photos to a Windows PC, email them as files, or upload them to a form that only accepts JPG or PNG.

Stop your iPhone saving HEIC

Open Settings › Camera › Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. Photos you already took stay HEIC, so convert those here. When you attach a photo from the Photos picker on an iPhone, it is usually converted to JPG automatically.

Several HEIC photos?

Convert them one after another, or turn them all into a single document with the photos to PDF tool, which also opens HEIC files.

  1. Choose or drop your HEIC file.
  2. Optionally resize it or set a maximum file size.
  3. Press Download to save the JPG.

Is it safe?

Yes. The photo is opened and resized by your own browser. It is never uploaded to a server, so nobody else can see it, and it works even if you go offline after the page has loaded. Saving a new copy also removes hidden camera data (EXIF), such as the GPS location where the photo was taken.
